Annual Appeal
Dear Friends and Supporters:
We opened to the public on July 4th, 2000,
and since then have shared our American Imagist
Collection worldwide. Like other
single-purpose museums founded by
individuals such as the Barnes Foundation,
Phila.;
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston;
The
Phillips Collection in Wash. D.C.; The Flagler
Museum,
Palm Beach; and The Frick Collection in NYC;
we
must now reach out to others for support in order to
develop this young institution to last in perpetuity. A
nonprofit organization, we are the first national
museum
focused exclusively on illustration art. Consequently,
we fill a significant void in the nation's documentation
of American civilization. Fast-becoming a well-known
repository for historic and iconic illustrations, we have
received many important art gifts, including Norman
Rockwell's The Choir Boy; Howard Pyle's
LaSalle
Christening Louisiana; deaccessions from the
Flagler
Museum; Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys works by
Rudy Nappi; and a variety of illustrations by Alton
Tobey, Violet Oakley, Frank Schoonover, anon.

Other
recent undertakings have been most exhilarating:
We
completed installing five galleries to exhibit
illustrations from all periods, styles, and types; We
reached an agreement with the Shanghai Art
Museum (SAM) to exhibit American illustration for the
first time in China ('Norman Rockwell and the
American Imagists') also SAM has asked us to
consider 'sister museum' status; We installed state of
the art systems for digital surveillance, HVAC and
new generators; Our museum shop now offers light
refreshments and is a delightful success with unusual
and one of a kind gift offerings; The Winterthur
Museum/University of Delaware mural restoration
team along with the University of Paris-Sorbonne
have stabilized our famed Louis Comfort Tiffany
Murals in the South Loggia Gallery, and the team will
return next summer to complete this important
restoration.

Director General of the Shanghai Municipal
Government Administration of Culture, Radio, Film
and
TV) shaking hands with Laurence Cutler, NMAI
Chairman and Co-Founder, during the visit of the
Shanghai Art Museum Delegation in June 2007.
We are hoping that
you can help us to continue on this meritorious
path.
We loan our art
works to many other
museums (14 paintings are currently on loan), but we
may have to curtail such largesse in the future
without additional financial support, including the
proposed 2009 Shanghai Art Museum exhibition.
Clearly, we need your help for our Endowment Fund
and operations as well. So, we kindly ask that you
make a year-end tax-deductible gift to our American
Civilization Foundation-a 501 c (3) organization. All
donations are applied in their entirety to
administration, operations, and an Endowment Fund
for the
Museum.
We only ask for help once each
year with hopes that you will participate generously
as we approach the season of giving thanks and of
high spirits. Please help us to continue sharing our
mutually beloved American illustration art in Newport,
Shanghai, and in other museums across the USA
and the globe. For information regarding
gifting and donation guidelines, please see below.
Gratefully yours,
Alan H. Rothschild, Esq.,
Annual Fund Chairman

The National Museum of
American Illustration is a
nonprofit,
independent, educational and aesthetic
organization. It is
located in Newport, RI on Bellevue Avenue at Vernon
Court
(1898), a Beaux-Arts adaptation of an 18th century
French
chateau built by architects, Carreré & Hastings. It is
the first national museum devoted
exclusively
to American illustration art. Illustration consists of
original
artwork created to be reproduced in books,
magazines,
newspapers and advertisements. 'Golden Age'
paintings by
such luminaries as Norman Rockwell, Maxfield
Parrish, NC
Wyeth, and 75 others are displayed in 'Gilded Age'
architecture, creating a unique union of art and
architecture-
a national treasure. The Museum is administered by
the
American Civilization Foundation, a nonprofit
organization
with the goal to present the best possible venue for
appreciating the greatest collection of illustration art;
the
most American of American art.
